The Face of Cassia

Director of Social Services Wendi Guyer

Face of Caring – August 2021

August is National Wellness Month, and as social workers are a huge part of promoting emotional wellness at Cassia, we are featuring Moose Lake Village Director of Social Services Wendi Guyer. A recent letter from the husband of a resident shows some of the impact Wendi has on those we serve.

“Thank you so much, Wendi,” the resident’s husband writes. I appreciate so much the personal care and attention you gave to my wife, and your report back to us. I have been deeply concerned about the move, but I don’t think it could have gone more smoothly. I can’t express in words how much I appreciate what you have done for my dear wife.

“It means a lot to know that she is in the best of hands. A very good friend visited me Sunday and she said a prayer for us. You are an answer to that prayer.’

“Wendi has been been an extreme blessing to our team,” says Moose Lake Village Administrator Shawna Smith. She is a humble, caring, helpful and beautiful person and I couldn’t have said it any better than this letter: she is the answer to our prayer.”

Wendi herself is passionate about serving older adults. “I have always, always, for as long as I can remember, enjoyed working with older people,” she says. “It’s important to honor not just who they are now, but who they were: the person who studied animals so we know more about farm animals and pets; the person who cared for their elders as a nurse or CNA; those who made matches, or life jackets, police officers, teachers or those who hauled goods in a semi-truck to deliver things we need. We should value them for who they were and are and what they contributed, not just to “society”, but to US, as individuals.”
